Significant Figures are any number recorded in a measurement. How do you know when a number is significant? Here are some rules to figure it out!
1. Nonzero integers are ALWAYS significant. (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) 2. Zeros can be significant or insignificant. How? Leading zeros are NEVER significant. Ex: 0.000578
Captive zeros are significant. Ex: 0.70098
Trailing zeros are significant when there is a decimal present. Ex: 0.4500 Ex: 1,200,000
